About

Dr. Minna Allarakhia has a doctorate in Management Sciences with a focus on Management of Technology from the University of Waterloo. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Master’s of Science from Brown University, and a Master’s of Applied Science in the area of Management of Technology from the University of Waterloo.

Her general interests lie in:

• innovation and the management of technology with an emphasis on the biopharmaceutical industry.

Specifically, her research interests encompass:

• knowledge structures and knowledge management in the biopharmaceutical industry
• the use of the open innovation model to enable biopharmaceutical research and development.

Her research has resulted in publications in:
• Technovation
• R&D Management
• Technological Forecasting and Social Change
• Nature Biotechnology
• Journal of Business Chemistry
• Expert Opinion on Drug Discovery.

Recently, Minna collaborated with the OECD Directorate for Science, Technology and Policy as well as the U.S. National Academy of Sciences to examine knowledge networks and markets in biotechnology, as well as policies encouraging the use of multi-sector knowledge networks. As a member of the Stiglitz Intellectual Property Task Force Initiative for Policy Dialogue (IPD) at Columbia University, she was recently invited to submit a chapter for the anticipated volume on Intellectual Property Rights: Legal and Economic Challenges for Development.

Dr. Allarakhia has established the BioEndeavor initiative—an initiative with the mandate to understand models of open innovation in the life sciences and is collaborating with faculty and private sector stakeholders from the pharmaceutical sector.
